bulletWindows XP: Disabling Balloon Tips

Disabling Balloon Tips

My current #1, absolute pet windows hatred is balloon tips. There's nothing worse than starting up to a flurry of annoying popup messages with totally redundant information. If you would like to be rid of them, read on...

Disabling balloon tips is one of the very first tweaks I do to an XP installation since I've found that they're universally disliked.

Recently my office network changed over to a domain based network. All this means is that a user is now is now forced to log onto the central server or the local computer. It also meant that some of my XP tweaks became non-functional; balloon tips was one of 'em.

GRRRRR! Balloon tips. If your running widows xp pro and you have administrator access (most likely), there's a very simple way of getting rid of them.

  1. Open the Group Policy Editor: Start > Run > "gpedit.msc".

  2. Expand the folder "Administrative Templates".
  3. Click on "Start Menu and Taskbar".
  4. Right click "Remove Balloon Tips on Start Menu Items".
  5. Select "Properties" from the context menu.

  6. Click the "Enabled" radio button > OK

No more balloons!
