Browser Mayhem Competition
Deliberately Breaking Layouts in Browsers Besides Firefox
The forum administrators at Sitepoint engaged
the board's community in a browser
mayhem competition with a novel
objective; design a full CSS layout that renders fine in Firefox,
but hopelessly fails in IE, Opera and Safari.
For designers who have
made the transition to full CSS layouts, this presents quite a
challenge. [idealism] Bad coding habits are quickly forgotten as
x-browser CSS compatibility becomes the norm [/idealism]. So many
will have to hark back to their newbie days to remember what worked
and what failed miserably.
The competition served as an invaluable platform for promoting awareness
of standards-based, browser rendering and CSS design. It was also
a hell of a lot of fun for v2Media to participate. Metho, one of
our designers, decided to enter with the objective of not 'breaking'
the CSS layout in other browsers, but to have the page's CSS render
in Firefox only.
If you visit his entry page in any browser besides Firefox, it will
render as plain html with no styling what so ever. Check it out:
Firefox CSS
Only.
